Looking for a Postnatal Doula? Here’s Why You Might Actually Need Me Instead

Ah, the newborn days.
That beautiful blur of baby snuggles, sleepless nights, and wondering if you’ll ever drink a hot cup of tea again.

If you’re here, chances are you’re looking for a little support — maybe you’ve been Googling “postnatal doula near me” or wondering if it’s time to bring in some help.

You’re absolutely on the right track. New mums deserve all the support they can get. But before you book a doula, let me gently suggest something:
You might actually need something (or someone) a little more experienced.

What Is a Postnatal Doula, Anyway?

Postnatal doulas are wonderful. They can provide emotional support, help you settle in with your baby, make you a cuppa, and maybe even pop a load of laundry on if you’re lucky.

But here’s the thing: a doula isn’t a midwife, and they’re not trained in clinical care or lactation support. Their role is companionship and general help — not medical advice or breastfeeding troubleshooting.

If you’re looking for:

Help with breastfeeding challenges

Support around your physical recovery

Guidance on settling, sleep, and newborn care

Someone who can spot if things aren’t quite right (for you or baby)…

…then you might be looking for someone with a little more training. That’s where I come in.

What I Offer (That Most Doulas Can’t)

Kate is an experienced midwife
Experitise in lactation and sleep

With 30 years’ experience as a private midwife and IBCLC-qualified lactation consultant, I offer:

✅ Expert breastfeeding support (from latch to low supply to “why won’t they stop feeding???”)
✅ Emotional support and reassurance (with a healthy dose of real-world experience)
✅ Gentle newborn care guidance (including sleep, settling and soothing)
✅ Support for you — because your wellbeing matters just as much as baby’s

What I don’t do?
❌ Housework
❌ Meal prep
❌ Rearranging your pantry while you’re trying to latch a crying baby

And honestly? You can always ask a relative or food delivery app for help with dinner.
But support with breastfeeding pain or post-birth recovery? That’s where I’m worth my weight in gold.

When to Book

I offer in-home and virtual support for new mums — whether you’re fresh home from hospital, recovering from a long labour, or just feeling overwhelmed with the whole “keeping a tiny human alive” thing.

Some families book me in advance (smart move!) while others reach out when things start to feel tricky. Either way, I’m here.

You Deserve More Than a Helping Hand — You Deserve Expert Support

So if you’re looking for someone to truly support you through the postnatal period — not just tidy up or make tea (though tea is always encouraged!) — let’s talk.

I’m not just here to help.
I’m here to hold space, offer answers, and make sure you feel confident and cared for — every step of the way.
